higg index

HIGG INDEX

Since 2021, we have been measuring and evaluating our sustainability activities with the Higg Index, a modular, web-based online tool for the footwear and apparel industry. A standardized questionnaire is used to identify sustainability risks and subsequently formulate measurable improvement targets. This also enables benchmarking with other companies.

The Higg Index was introduced in 2012 by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) and aims to promote social justice throughout the global value chain and reduce the environmental impact of products.

STS 2030

With its unique heritage, JOOP! has stood for highly stylish statements and discerning quality for decades. For us, the use of more sustainable and resource-saving production processes and the assumption of responsibility throughout the value chain are inherent elements of this, too.

As part of the HOLY Fashion Group, JOOP! has been a member of the Sustainable Textiles Switzerland 2030 (STS 2030) programme since December 2021. Together with the STS 2030 initiative, we want to make an active contribution to the improvement of a sustainable and socially responsible value chain in the clothing sector. Through our membership, we pledge to our commitment to taking specific action to achieve the goals, which include:

1.    The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions

2.    The promotion of fair salaries and humane working conditions for all

3.    The promotion of innovative business models towards a circular economy

4.    Transparency to ensure that sustainable purchasing decisions can be made

better cotton

BETTER COTTON

JOOP! has been a proud member of the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) since April 2020. As a global non-profit organisation and the largest cotton sustainability programme in the world, BCI brings people and organisations together with the aim of achieving continuous, measurable improvements for the environment, farmers and the economy of cotton cultivation regions.

The initiative trains farmers to use water efficiently, respect the health of the soil and natural habitats, reduce the use of harmful chemicals and uphold fair working conditions. BCI farmers benefit from the demand for Better Cotton in the same quantities as we procure.

Better Cotton is sourced through a mass balance system and is not physically traceable to the final products.

As part of the HOLY FASHION GROUP, JOOP! has set itself the goal of procuring at least 50% of its cotton from sustainable sources by 2025. ‘Sustainable cotton’ refers to Better Cotton as well as recycled cotton, organic cotton and GOTS- and OCS-certified cotton.

repreve

REPREVE

We use recycled fibres from the renowned brand REPREVE® in some selected products. REPREVE® is made from 100% recycled materials, in particular used PET bottles. The PET bottles are collected, cleaned and sorted, then shredded and melted down into plastic granules. In an energy- and resource-saving procedure, high-quality polyester yarns are then produced.

Thanks to the U-Trust Fiberprint technology developed by REPREVE®, the origin of the fibres can be clearly verified.
